Environmental Story
At Humanscale, our approach to product development and manufacturing embodies our mission to minimize our impacts. We believe that the best designs in the world achieve more with less, so we act accordingly. Summa features a cylinder and base made with an environmentally neutral Chrome 3 finish, rather than Chrome 6 a finish often used in the manufacturing process that is hazardous to users and the environment. Summa is exclusively available in Humanscale’s chrome-free leather. This alternatively tanned leather uses a clear water technology method to eliminate chromium, a harmful chemical used in most leather tanning methods.

Next-Generation Technology
Like all Humanscale chairs, we've replaced the locks, knobs and springs that are under older generation chairs with your body weight and the laws of physics. The result is effortless movement from posture to posture, making it feel as if the chair were custom-made for you or whoever happens to be sitting in it at any given moment.
Long Lasting Textiles
Humanscale textiles are engineered for exceptional durability, with most fabrics exceeding 150,000 double rubs in the Wyzenbeek abrasion test, five times the industry standard of 30,000 ensuring they retain their appearance even after years of heavy use. They are also tested for gentleness using the Reverse Wyzenbeek Test to ensure they resist wear while remaining kind to users' clothing.
Glueless Upholstery
We do not use glue when applying textiles to cushions so our fabrics won’t delaminate or wrinkle over time. Not using glue is also better for the environment and healthier for people.
Clean Gas Cylinder
Our cylinders are cleaner and more reliable than conventional cylinders. Unlike other chairs, our patented design seals grease in the lower unit to protect both user and chain
Bases Designed Not to Wear
Humanscale chair bases are built for lasting durability using solid aluminum or uniform colour through materials rather than painted finishes that show scratches and wear. Because the material remains consistent throughout, the base maintains its original appearance even after years of use, ensuring long term aesthetics and performance.
