Legendary designer Niels Diffrient's focus on simplicity led to the patented gravity mechanism found in World. It uses physics and the sitter's own body weight to provide optimised and automatic support without complex adjustments, so you can move effortlessly from position to position without operating manual knobs and levers.
Patented Form Sensing Mesh™
Inspired by clothing design and combined with low stretch mesh, World's mesh backrest ensures a personalised fit and maximum adaptability. Unlike traditional single-paneled mesh chairs, our tri paneled Form Sensing Mesh takes on the exact shape of the sitter's back, as if it were made for them. Perfect for dynamic workspaces, World promotes balanced movement for enhanced comfort throughout the day.
Mesh Protected By The Frame:
We insert our mesh into the front frame of the chair versus wrapping it around the frame. This protects the mesh from fraying or tearing when the frame bumps into things. We do this not only to prevent the fabric from wearing through, but to help the fabric look new after 5-to-10 years. If stretch mesh isn’t protected, it will fray within a year or two.
Armrests That Move With You
Humanscale armrests are attached to the chair back rather than the seat, allowing them to move with you as you recline. This ensures continuous elbow and forearm support in every posture, eliminating the gaps created by conventional seat mounted armrests and promoting greater comfort and ergonomic support throughout the day.
Glueless Upholstery
We do not use glue when applying textiles to cushions so our fabrics won’t delaminate or wrinkle over time. Not using glue is also better for the environment and healthier for people.
Clean Gas Cylinder
Our cylinders are cleaner and more reliable than conventional cylinders. Unlike other chairs, our patented design seals grease in the lower unit to protect both user and chain
Bases Designed Not to Wear
Humanscale chair bases are built for lasting durability using solid aluminum or uniform colour through materials rather than painted finishes that show scratches and wear. Because the material remains consistent throughout, the base maintains its original appearance even after years of use, ensuring long term aesthetics and performance.
INVISIBLE RECLINE MECHANISM
Diffrient World uses the laws of physics and harnesses the user’s body weight to automatically provide the right amount of recline for every individual, every time. Its groundbreaking mechanism-free recline action leverages two parts of the chair’s frame to provide automatic, balanced support throughout the full range of motion for maximum support.
RESPONSIVE BRACKET
Diffrient developed the chair’s back using the laws of physics, which eliminates the requirement for a separate lumbar support, which tends to create a pressure point and requires manual adjustment. With patented Form Sensing Mesh Technology, the backrest perfectly conforms to the sitter’s entire back as if custom made for them.
SITTING ON AIR
A truly lightweight chair, Diffrient World replaces the standard cushion seat with a low-abrasion, non-stretch mesh. To maximise comfort, Diffrient eliminated the front edge of the chair, solving a perennial problem of hard edges placing pressure on the knees and contact stress behind the thighs, allowing long-term comfort and total supports for every sitter
