ABOUT HUMANSCALE
Making healthier workplaces for people and the environment.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
The best designs in the world are based on purpose and function.
FUNCTION
FUNCTION
If a design solves a functional problem as simply and elegantly as possible, the resulting form will be honest, timeless and relevant across cultures.
SIMPLICITY
SIMPLICITY
Simplicity and ease of use are at the heart of functionality. Designing for simplicity means using fewer parts and less material, making the function so easy to use that it’s invisible to the user.
LONGEVITY
LONGEVITY
It’s easy to make a product that looks great when it firsts comes out of the box. It’s hard to make one that still looks great after years of heavy use. A product’s form should flow from its function, resulting in products that will feel as current and relevant in 20 years as they do today.
SUSTAINABILITY
SUSTAINABILITY
For most companies, sustainability means doing less harm to the environment. At Humanscale, we believe everything we create from our company to factories to products must be self-sustaining and make a positive contribution.
SINCE 1980
Humanscale pioneered workplace ergonomics in the early 1980s, and we are now the leading global designer and manufacturer of products that improve wellness at work.
Our award-winning office solutions – including self adjusting seating, sit/stand desks, monitor arms and task lighting – inspire movement and support the user in their every posture.
Headquartered in New York, Humanscale marked its first milestone with the introduction of revolutionary articulating keyboard systems, as a workplace ergonomics pioneer in the 1990s . Humanscale established as a true market leader with the introduction of the Freedom chair in 1999, created by renowned ergonomics designer Niels Diffrient. The Ergonomic executive task chair broke new ground by combining unprecedented functionality with minimal manual controls. Humanscale followed suit with a series of Diffrient seating designs including Liberty, Diffrient World, and Smart chairs.
