Designer Niels Diffrient replaced the locks, knobs and levers that are under older generation chairs with your body weight and the laws of physics. It's almost as if it were made for the sitter. This means you can move effortlessly from one position to another.

Inspired by clothing design and combined with low stretch mesh, ensuring a personalised fit and maximum adaptability. Unlike traditional single-panel mesh chairs, Form Sensing Mesh takes on the exact shape of the sitter's back, as if it were made for them. Mesh Protected By The Frame:
We insert our mesh into the front frame of the chair versus wrapping it around the frame. This protects the mesh from fraying or tearing when the frame bumps into things. We do this not only to prevent the fabric from wearing through, but to help the fabric look new after 5-to-10 years. If stretch mesh isn’t protected, it will fray within a year or two.
Armrests That Move With You
Humanscale armrests are attached to the chair back rather than the seat, allowing them to move with you as you recline. This ensures continuous elbow and forearm support in every posture, eliminating the gaps created by conventional seat mounted armrests and promoting greater comfort and ergonomic support throughout the day.
Glueless Upholstery
We do not use glue when applying textiles to cushions so our fabrics won’t delaminate or wrinkle over time. Not using glue is also better for the environment and healthier for people.
Clean Gas Cylinder
Our cylinders are cleaner and more reliable than conventional cylinders. Unlike other chairs, our patented design seals grease in the lower unit to protect both user and chain
Bases Designed Not to Wear

To combat this problem and build upon our commitment to creating a Net Positive impact on the Earth, Humanscale has expanded its Ocean seating line with Liberty.
Like its predecessor, the Smart Ocean, Liberty Ocean helps clean up our oceans with each chair using almost 2 pounds of reclaimed fishing net material. Adhering to our core design philosophies, Liberty Ocean features the same Form-Sensing Mesh Technology and seamless functionality as all Humanscale task chairs. The chair instantly adjusts to each unique user to provide the perfect support in every position without knobs, locks, or levers.
